Service enquiries and their boundaries
Service materials describe onboard asbestos removal, IHM-related remediation, identification of hazardous materials and follow-up removal needs. The work that can be arranged depends on the material, vessel location, available personnel and project requirements. Establish the problem and requested outcome first.
Distinguish remediation after an existing inventory or inspection from further identification of a suspected material, physical removal and disposal. These tasks may need different personnel and documents; an enquiry described simply as “IHM work” does not define every activity.
- Review the requested remediation scope against an existing IHM or inspection finding.
- Discuss identification and removal requirements for suspected asbestos or other hazardous materials.
- Confirm the professional resources needed for sampling, analysis, work and subsequent disposal.
Confirm personnel and project credentials
Existing service materials describe professionally trained riding personnel and onboard air sampling and microscope analysis by an ACM removal engineer. Whether that approach is appropriate for a job requires confirmation of personnel qualifications, analysis arrangements and report suitability.
Before arranging attendance, request current personnel and service documents and confirm qualification validity and the proposed scope. Other vessel-repair certifications do not establish the credentials required for hazardous-material work.
Location, records and responsibilities
Provide material locations, existing photographs, inspection or analysis records and the remediation requested. Include owner, yard and relevant surveyor requirements for reporting, coordination and disposal documentation.
Identification, analysis, removal and final disposal need separate scope confirmation, together with the work window and responsibilities of each party. Do not disturb suspected asbestos-containing material to prepare an enquiry; use existing records and images for the initial discussion.
